Facebook secretly turns on your iPhone camera

Facebook privacy

Update: Facebook released a patch to fix this issue.

It’s another day, and another massive privacy violation by Facebook. Apparently, while using the Facebook for iPhone the app can actively use your camera without your knowledge while scrolling through your feed.

User Joshua Maddox first released his findings via Twitter on November 10th:

Maddux followed up by saying he found the privacy issue on five iPhone devices running iOS 13.2.2. However, as far as he could tell iOS 12 didn’t show the camera, but that it could still be used.

It remains to be seen if this was intentional by Facebook or a unknown security flaw. Although, with Facebook’s previous troubles with privacy violations it wouldn’t be surprising if it was deliberate.
