Several states are looking into Facebook for possible antitrust law violations, according to the New York attorney general.
Letitia James, the New York attorney general is leading the investigation. The other states involved include Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia.
In particular, the investigation will focus on how Facebook “endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increase the price of advertising.”
This isn’t the first difficulty Facebook has had. They were fined $5 billion by the Federal Trade Commission recently and they’re still under investigation for additional legal violations.
While Facebook us currently under the most scrutiny, the heat is also ramping up on Google with additional states expected to announce investigations into the search giant soon.
