Google Closing Several Services in 2020

In typical Google fashion of throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks, in 2020 they’ll be killing off several services that didn’t garner enough attention.

Google Hangouts
Shutdown Date: June
Google announced all the way back in 2017 that they would be killing off Google Hangouts and it seems like they’re finally going to do it. However, the chat and video service will be replaced by “Hangouts Chat & Meet”. The company already has several different chat and video services so I suspect this will only make it even more confusing for the companies users.

Google Hire
Shutdown Date: September
Google Hire is a recruiting platform aimed at small and medium businesses bundled with G Suite. Google didn’t provide a reason for shutting down the service but we would imagine it was from lack of interest by customers.

Google Cloud Print
Shutdown Date: End of 2020
Cloud Print was a service that helped users print from compatible cloud services like Google Docs to a supported printer.

Fabric
Shutdown Date: March 31st
Fabric is a mobile app development tool that has been integrated into another tool called Firebase. This is more of a streamlining situation than a service closure.

If Google decides to kill off any other services in 2020 I’ll update this list. For now, if you use any of these app it would wise to seek out alternatives.
