Facebook isn’t known for being a very magnanimous company due to their massive privacy violations. Now they are feeling the heat from their anti-competitive & monopolistic practices.
Recently, the Wall Street Journal revealed information from their sources indicating that Facebook’s rivals are ready to snitch to the Federal Trade Commission. Among the information they’re sharing is the company’s actions regarding the purchase of competition like Instagram & developing products design to edge out smaller companies. Among the most notable companies set to dime out Facebook is their competitor Snapchat.
Snapchat’s lawyers have collected a significant amount of evidence concerning Facebook engaging in potentially anti-competitive behavior. The humorously named project called “Project Voldemort” claims that Instagram prevented users from linking out to their Snapchat account profiles and threated them with the loss of their verification adding a link.
Snapchat’s big wigs also believe Instagram stifled Snapchat content from trending and curbed tagged posts or Snapchat related searches.
WSJ revealed that that FTC have also contacted “dozens of tech executives and app developers” to further investigate potential antitrust violations by the company. Along with competitors they’re also looking into a VPN service that Facebook acquired called Onavo that they used to gobble up data on users.
