Twitter recently announced their new “Topics” feature that they will be rolling out worldwide on November 13th. This will allow you to follow specific topics along with individual accounts. To start, they’ll have 300+ topics to choose from such as news, gaming, sports, etc where you’ll get a feed of tweets from authoritative Twitter accounts on the subjects you choose. Sometimes it takes a while to find and follow many of the primary figures involved in a particular subject matter, so the intention of the new feature is to make that a simple process.
Eventually, Twitter plans to add even more topics to choose from and add more granular categorizations. However, it remains to be seen if this new feature will even be widely adopted or end up like “Lists” that nobody I know actually uses.
Twitter has experienced some difficulty enticing new users to join their social media platform. With that said, in my humble opinion “Topics” will be a good way to on-board new users so they can find interesting accounts to keep them engaged.
