A 20 year old student from Chicago, Thomas Osadzinski, has been arrested by authorities for lending his coding and Linux abilities to ISIS.
Court documents allege the young man planned to create a stripped down Gentoo distribution designed to secure and evade US counter intelligence hacking attempts.
In an ISIS run discussion group Osadzinski stated “I will began a new and very valuable project,” and I will be developing a custom gentoo linux version designed for ansar it can run on any computer and will be very lightweight, fast, and secure.”
Osadzinski planned to submit regular updates to the project in a chat room according to the undercover FBI agent monitoring the discussion.
Additionally, the alleged culprit wrote Python code to automate media backups from ISIS social media sources to allow members to reupload them to their own accounts.
If Osadzinski is found guilty of providing material support to ISIS, he can faces up to 20 years in prison.
